David Mitroff is a second generation San Franciscan. He spent his early childhood years
in Marin County, grew up in Walnut Creek, and attended San Francisco State University.
After earning his Bachelors Degree in Psychology, he earned his Masters and Doctorate Degree in Clinical Psychology from the California School of Professional
Dr. Mitroff focused a lot of his education and published articles on Forensic Psychology, leading to him being selected for a prestigious doctoral internship at the U.S. Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Prisons in Florida, where he conducted psychological evaluations, provided therapy and was a member of the hostage negotiation team. This wealth of education and practical experience helps him understand the psychology behind business and marketing decisions.
Dr. Mitroff has never been intimidated by the thought of learning since he comes from a family that values higher education. His father, brother, uncle, aunt and others in his immediate family all have doctorate degrees. Although they were influential in his enjoyment of school, he was always self-motivated and found the pursuit of higher education stimulating and important.
Throughout his educational studies, Dr. Mitroff held a number of sales jobs – starting at the age of 15 where he sold men’s suits. Other notable roles have included selling ladies’ shoes at Nordstrom’s, making 150 cold calls a day for Providian Bank, and selling large complex legal and technology solutions to the largest law firms in downtown San Francisco for six years with LexisNexis. In addition, he consulted business owners and organizations until his consulting business grew and expanded to become a full-time focus.
David Mitroff is the founder and chief consultant of Piedmont Avenue Consulting (www.PiedmontAve.com) through which he provides business consulting and marketing services to create brand awareness, strengthen customer loyalty and generate new opportunities. He works with a diversity of clients in the Bay Area and beyond, such as restaurants and retail specialty stores, franchises, professional services firms, start-ups and individual entrepreneurs. He leverages his extensive professional and education background, including a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, to motivate people to create change, while understanding the psychology behind business and marketing decisions.
Dr. Mitroff is an active member, on the executive board, or advisory committees for a number of local organizations. He continually collaborates with several consultant groups, merchant associations, and charities to best serve the community. He is a sought-after speaker on a wide range of topics from social media to event marketing, and through his consulting, lectures, trainings, and keynotes has educated more than 15,000 business owners.
Dr. Mitroff is proud to be a business advisor with the Alameda County Small Business Development Center (SBDC), where he provides technical assistance to small businesses, aspiring entrepreneurs, and larger companies and organizations through one-on-one counseling, educational workshops, trainings and specialized services to support business performance and sustainability and enhance the creation of new businesses entities.
His specialties include social media marketing, technology integrations, business and partnership development, customer loyalty programs, and restaurant and retail marketing.
