Pizza with Pizzazz at Forge Restaurant

Oakland’s Jack London Square fuses the historic with the up and coming, but one thing it has always been known for are its array of elegant dining options, purveyors of fine seafood, and colorful multi-ethnic cuisines. While maintaining this reputation, the Jack London waterfront has gotten a modern and sleek upgrade, and playing a vital role in this upgrade is Forge.

Forge was opened in 2013,by  Michael Karp, owner of two restaurants in Orinda Theater Square, and Kuleto Restaurant Group’s Bob Burke, aiming to create your new go to place for hand crafted wood fired pizza, brews, and stunning vistas of the bay. Inside, you’ll find decor that is rustic meets modern equipped with reclaimed wood, and iron bars stools and detailing. Outside, are fire pits and a patio overlooking the waterfront. Good news if you’re a dog lover, the outsides  patio is also dog friendly, water bowls and all!

With the beautiful weather we’ve been having this Spring in the Bay, the outdoor seating area is the perfect place to take full advantage of  the weather with  light weekend luncheon of their crisp spinach salad combining chicory, apple, jalapeño, mint and feta, and splitting one of their pizzas amongst friends. Might I suggest a glass of bubbly rose to go with? If you like beer with your pizza, there are many selections from local craft breweries to choose from as well as innovative handcrafted cocktails, like the  Pink Fang, their take on a cosmos with a slight nod and play on words to Jack London’s White Fang.

Treat yourself to the indulgence of their many pizza variations, on their hand-tossed, whole wheat artisan thin crust. If you’re feeling creative, add your own toppings such as speck, arugula, Calabrian pepper, or even top it with an egg.

With all these high end pizza places popping up in the Bay Area, as great as they are, you just want something different. Forge has got you covered for that as well! They have a list of appetizers that exceed all expectations of great bar food to complement your pizza, like baby octopus with aioli, fried cheese curds, or smoked chicken wings! Pizzas aren’t the only entree available. Their fried chicken is made with Mary’s Free Range Chicken, or a burger that is comparable to any burger joint! Being by the sea, you may find yourself craving fresh seafood. Satisfy that with some mussels or the fish of the day!

Don’t forget to save room for dessert, an age old dilemma when you are dining out somewhere fantastic, and tempted to clean your plate. They make their own soft serve ice cream!
