A hotel’s online presence is important because hoteliers can utilize it to track and analyze results, and then quickly optimize the performance accordingly. Mitroff also emphasizes that the most important key to build brand awareness is making sure all messaging is consistent across marketing efforts.
To build awareness and drive conversion, a hotel should start building a quality and unique website. Mitroff said building the website is the most important area because you own it and can control it. He added that the website is the central hub of a hotel’s online strategy, which also defines the hotel’s message.
If you are allowed to create your own site, you should take advantage of this opportunity. He said by creating your unique website, you can customize, control and better your results in Google searches and it is good for search engine optimization.

- Define a clear message.
- Create a medium for content.
- Provide links.
- Update content.
Content is Critical
Mitroff said that the website can’t be a successful tool unless it has good content with calls to action that will help drive traffic and ultimately conversion. Successful calls to action include discounts, downloads, event invitation and more, with the request of visitor’s email address. This can also give people an excuse for people to give you their email address, call you, or go check out your property.
Lastly, Mitroff said hoteliers should put their links to their social media pages on platforms such as TripAdvisor, Facebook, Twitter and Yelp. They should also clearly indicate the ways to connect through email or signing up for newsletters. This can help drive customers to different areas where they continue discussing the conversation about the brand.
